What I love about instrumental music is that you can still think about whatever you want to think about while still listening to something else. It's also like a soundtrack to your life. It's great just walking down the street and putting my earphones in and turning on some This Will Destroy You and making up my own soundtrack. I can think about stories. I think about my past and my future. I think about how I want my life to end up -- how I want to meet the man I want to marry, how I envision my future children, how old I will live to be. I mean, the great thing about this life is the mysteries. We don't know what is going to happen or how it will happen, just that something will and it will change us forever.
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, many term us as "Mormons." I love my church with all my heart. I will be serving a mission in Houston, Texas, leaving August 14. I'm so incredibly nervous but so excited. To spend 18 months away from my loved ones and to devote myself so wholly to God scares me, obviously, but I know I can do it, and I can do good, with the Lord and his angels by my side.
See, some people who don't know my church don't always understand our values and the rules we live by. We don't practice polygamy, we don't have horns, we are normal people. I mean, take me for example. I can't be any more normal or boring or lazy. I'm an average American girl who still has worries and pain but laughs at funny episodes of Parks & Rec or Demetri Martin. I don't know, maybe I'm not normal. Maybe normal girls my age actually enjoy shopping or gossiping or something. I hate that stuff--my favorite stores are Barnes and Noble, FYE, or Games People Play (probably because the title is so interestingly uninteresting).
I feel like I'm all over the place. What I'm trying to explain is that, to those people who completely throw themselves away from the LDS Church--don't. I mean, if you don't believe, than I'm not forcing you to stay. Just don't judge a book by it's cover--give us a try, open the book, turn the pages. See what it's like before you deny everything. There's so much more to this religion than many think. My future is this gospel. In order for my family to stay together forever, I need this gospel. In order for me to meet my Savior, Jesus Christ, again, I need this gospel. I need this gospel and I can't help but stress that to others. This gospel is so wonderful and beautiful, full of knowledge to last eternity but also the mystery to intrigue until the answers come.
Man, it's great.
This is why I'm heading to Houston in three months. Where the air is humid and the people are still happy. (Ha..Ha.) Okay, I'm from Utah. It's dry here and I still struggle in the heat. But it will be great. I don't know, maybe I'll end up loving it. I get weird with lotion and my hands being dry--maybe this humidity will help with that. It will be great. I'm stoked.
Okay..so. I'm wearing this incredibly comfortable shirt, so I'm going to go.

I'm a Velociraptor.
Hello Internet World, my name is Lindy and this is my blog, I guess.
I'm just going to get right to it.
I like stories. This is why I read books, watch movies and television shows, listen to music, and stare intently at people who are telling me tales. People can call me lazy because, well, I am. I can easily sit in my room for hours (this is very normal for me) and dive into the different stories I can find. There are only a few things I don't like.
Books: So, I love reading. But unlike many people who do read, I don't read boring books. The book really has to snatch my attention. If it's boring, I kind of just skip. I hate that I do that, but I want the story without the wasted time.
Movies: I hate scary movies. Horror, thriller, you name it (well...that may actually be it). I can, however watch scary movies that could actually happen to me (like Prom Night or When a Stranger Calls) and not be scared afterward, but I can NOT watch movies that could not happen (like The Uninvited or Haunting in Connecticut--though some may believe these to possibly happen, I don't). My imagination kind of get's past me when I'm laying in bed, ready to go to sleep. It's easier for me to believe there is a scary alien or evil monster looming over me than a creepy guy (I don't know, I know it's more likely for there to be a human instead of an alien, but I kind of give people the benefit of the doubt). But, I'd still choose to never watch a scary movie. They leave me unhappy with unhappy feelings and I like to remain happy. It makes sense. Scary movies are pretty much the only movies I will easily not watch. Depending on the movie, though, I won't watch overly stupid comedy movies that I know will contain a large use of profanity, sex, and drugs. I have a sense of humor, but that stuff doesn't exactly fit the bill.
Music: I tend to steer from screamo, heavy metal, rap, hip-hop, pop, or country. I understand people that may like that kind of music, but it's just not my thing. I go for more indie-rock, acoustic and/or alternative types. I'm also a huge fan of instrumental music--which means I love soundtracks. Movie soundtracks are the absolute best (if they are the best). When you listen to them, it's practically like watching the movie all over again, which is fabulous because that way, you can think about the story all over again.
Since I'm more a listener than a talker, people tend to think I'm shy. Which, in some cases can be true. I like to term myself as "quiet" because I can get really crazy with people I know and like. I'm more introverted around crowds or people whose personalities clash with mine. If someone doesn't have a sense of humor, then I get a little antsy. Here's one more thing you should know about me: I'm huge into comedy. I'm awkward, because it's funny. My humor doesn't always fit that of other people's, at least that's what I've been told (I'm sarcastic and dry, which means people don't always know if I'm joking or being serious). I just know that I like funny things, if they are funny. I haven't really gotten around to showing my sense of humor in this post, which is probably because I am talking about some crazy serious stuff.
Blah blah blah. Yeah. That's me. In a nutshell, I guess I'm a comic genius who could practically rule the world if I wanted to, but since I doesn't really want to, I'll just sit in my room watch movies, read books and listen to music. Because I'm awesome.
Oh yeah. I guess I should let you know that "Tuning Out the Silence" refers a bit to my love for music and a bit of other stuff I won't get into right now. So, after each post, I will suggest a song or two that I think people should listen to. At least songs I've been listening to quite a lot.
Here's a list for today:
Hearts Break by Stephen J Anderson
Trees by Twenty One Pilots
No Harm by The Boxer Rebellion
The Twist by Frightened Rabbit
Ahhhhhh.. Such wonderful music.
